Quartzite Natural Stone
A metamorphic stone formed from sandstone, among the hardest used in design, supplied as large format slabs and hard wearing cobbles.
Quartzite is a metamorphic natural stone formed when sandstone is subjected to intense heat and pressure, fusing its quartz grains into a dense, very hard stone. It combines flowing, marble like veining with considerably greater resistance to scratching and etching, which makes it a popular choice for kitchen benchtops.
For durability, generally yes. Quartzite is harder and far more resistant to etching from acidic foods and cleaners than marble. Marble offers deeper polish and more dramatic veining, and some clients prefer the way it develops a patina. For a busy family kitchen, quartzite is usually the more practical natural stone.
Quartzite is a natural stone quarried from the earth. Quartz benchtops are an engineered product made from crushed quartz bound with resin. They look, perform and are fabricated differently.
Taj Mahal is a quartzite known for its soft ivory base, warm beige undertones and delicate flowing veining. Europe Imports supplies Taj Mahal Matira, honed at 2cm, for kitchens, bathrooms and interior surfaces. It pairs well with warm timber and soft neutral palettes.
Generally yes. Quartzite is much harder than marble, but porosity varies by quarry and some quartzites absorb liquids more than others. A sealing specification is usually recommended, particularly for kitchens. We supply Chemforce Stain Protector and can advise on the right approach for your slab.
Yes. Quartzite's hardness suits outdoor use, and our Brighton Quartzite Cobbles are made for driveways, paths and feature paving. The splitface surface is textured underfoot. For driveways, the base must be designed for vehicle loading.
Brighton Quartzite Cobbles are supplied as 10 x 10 x 2cm setts with a splitface finish, in grey and pinkish tones, and can be laid in a straight or brick pattern. Confirm current stock and coverage with our team before quoting a job.
We recommend it. Every quartzite slab is unique, and veining and colour vary between blocks. Book an appointment and our team can arrange a slab viewing so you and your fabricator can select and reserve the slabs for your project.
