How to specify brown slabs
Be realistic about wear. Every slab we offer is either marble, travertine or limestone. These calcium based stones are softer than quartzite or granite and react to acids, so lemon juice, vinegar and wine can etch the surface. They suit owners who like a benchtop that gathers character. If the kitchen needs a harder surface, ask our team about the quartzites in our quartzite range, or put the earthy stone on the vanity and splashback and use a harder stone on the working benchtop.
Choose honed for a natural look. Our marbles and limestones are supplied honed, a matt, low sheen surface that suits earthy tones and disguises light etching better than polish.
Pick the right Titanium Silver finish. Filled and leathered gives a tactile surface with the natural pits filled, which is more practical on a benchtop or vanity. Honed and unfilled leaves the pits open for a rustic, textural look that suits feature walls and fireplace surrounds. Confirm the finish of your reserved slabs with our team.
Plan the layout on the slab. The brown veins in Cosmopolitan Bordeaux and the linear banding in Titanium Silver Travertine have direction. Ask your fabricator to lay out templates on the reserved slabs, so the veining runs sensibly along an island and up a splashback, and joins fall where the pattern hides them. Fabricators quote on the selected slabs, so confirm quantities before you reserve.
Seal and maintain. Travertine and limestone are more porous than marble, and all natural stone benefits from sealing. We supply stone sealers, including Chemforce Stain Protector. Technical data for each slab is in our technical information area, and our guide to natural stone explains how the stone types differ.
Where Earthy Slabs Shine
Timber kitchens. Cosmopolitan Bordeaux and Tundra Medium sit comfortably with walnut and oak, where a bright white benchtop can feel stark. The brown and blush veins in Cosmopolitan Bordeaux pick up warm timber grain.
Vanities and ensuites. Tundra Light and Tundra Medium give a bathroom a quiet, spa like calm. A vanity top and matching wall panel from the same slabs keeps the room consistent.
Feature walls and fireplaces. Titanium Silver Travertine in the honed and unfilled finish brings real texture to a wall, and its mixed greys and browns read well at full height.
Splashbacks. Running the benchtop slab up the wall continues the veining without a change of material. Plan splashback cuts at the same time as the benchtop.
Tapware and hardware. Aged brass, bronze and warm gold draw out the brown and taupe in these slabs. Matte black gives a crisper contrast. Bright chrome can look cold against earthy stone, so test it against the slab at your viewing.

Where the Brown Sits in Each Slab
To be straightforward, none of our slabs is a solid brown. Each slab carries brown or taupe in a particular way, and that placement is what decides how the benchtop will read in a room.
Brown in the veins. Cosmopolitan Bordeaux is a marble with a soft grey base crossed by graceful brown and blush veins. From across the room it reads grey; up close, the brown gives it warmth. It is the closest match in our range for anyone searching for brown marble.
Brown in the blend. Titanium Silver Travertine mixes soft greys, browns and silvery tones with natural pitting and linear veining. The brown here is woven through the whole surface rather than drawn in lines.
Taupe in the base. Tundra Medium is a limestone in soft greys with subtle taupe undertones, and Tundra Light is a paler grey with a taupe lean. They give an earthy calm without any obvious pattern.
Taupe in the veins. Diana Royal and Breccia San Pietro are beige marbles with taupe in their veining or fragments. They read warmer and lighter than the rest, suited to kitchens that want earthiness with a beige base.
Europe Imports does not stock a solid brown marble. The closest option is Cosmopolitan Bordeaux, a marble with a soft grey base and graceful brown and blush veining. Diana Royal and Breccia San Pietro are beige marbles with taupe veining for a lighter earthy look.
A brown or taupe benchtop suits kitchens built around timber, warm whites and earthy tones, and it disguises everyday marks better than bright white. Today's earthy benchtops tend to use brown veining or taupe undertones rather than a solid dark brown.
Taupe is a grey brown tone that sits between grey and beige. Tundra Medium and Tundra Light limestone slabs from Europe Imports carry taupe undertones, giving an earthy, calm surface without strong pattern.
Travertine can be used on benchtops, but it is softer and more porous than quartzite or granite and reacts to acids. Titanium Silver Travertine in the filled and leathered finish is the more practical option for a benchtop, and it must be sealed.
Earthy stones such as Cosmopolitan Bordeaux marble and Tundra Medium limestone sit naturally with walnut and oak. Bring a timber sample to your slab viewing to check the undertone of the stone against the grain.
Aged brass, bronze and warm gold tapware bring out the brown and taupe in earthy stone. Matte black gives a stronger contrast. View the slab with a tapware sample before deciding.

Yes. Marble, travertine and limestone are all porous and benefit from sealing after installation. Europe Imports supplies stone sealers, including Chemforce Stain Protector, and can advise on care for your chosen slab.
